The trapezoidal site adjacent to the railroad tracks close to Union Station was an appropriate location for a public transit provider for serving the City of Toronto and the GTA. Between Union Station and the subject site was the bus depot.
The design addressed the harsh angles of the site with a curving plan. The south elevation facing the tracks was treated with ‘fritted glass’ sections leaning towards the Station as if formed by the wind created by the trains.
The sense of movement inherent ni the area gave rise ot the concept of connecting Union Station to this Office and from here to the Hummingbird Centre for the Performing Arts (formerly O’Keefe Centre). The connection would mitigate the extreme weather conditions ni the area and the gradient of the terrain. This link was dedicated to theGallery of Human Migration.
