“M” TOWER, 2007 TORONTO ON

Abstract black and white image with diagonal white lines creating an intriguing pattern on a solid black background.
From the sense of motion to the curvilinear plane, to the crossing link...

The trapezoidal site adjacent to the railroad tracks close to Union Station was an appropriate location for a public transit provider serving the City of Toronto and the GTA. Between Union Station and the subject site was the bus depot.

The design addressed the harsh angles of the site with a curving plan. The south elevation facing the tracks was treated with ‘fritted glass’ sections leaning towards the Station as if formed by the wind created by the trains.

Modern high-rise building with illuminated glass façade at night, showcasing innovative architectural design and contemporary urban landscape.

The sense of movement inherent in the area gave rise to the concept of connecting Union Station to this Office and from here to the Hummingbird Centre for the Performing Arts (formerly O’Keefe Centre). The connection would mitigate the extreme weather conditions in the area and the gradient of the terrain. This link was dedicated to the  Gallery of Human Migration.
